SBI Launches Special Facility for Aadhaar-Based Registration in Important Schemes, No Need for Passbook
SBI has introduced a special facility for customers to register in social security schemes using Aadhaar card. According to SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara, the aim is to simplify the registration process for various social security schemes. This facility will be available at Customer Service Points (CSP) of the bank.
The bank stated that for registration in schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and Atal Pension Yojana, customers will only need their Aadhaar card at the Customer Service Centers, and there will be no requirement for a passbook.
This step by SBI is expected to expand the scope of social security schemes significantly. Dinesh Khara mentioned that the goal of this new feature is to empower every section of society by simplifying the registration process for financial security. This is expected to lead to a substantial increase in the reach of social security schemes.
Benefits under Social Security Schemes:
- Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY): This is a one-year life insurance scheme that provides coverage in case of death due to any reason. It offers a life insurance coverage of ₹2 lakh for a premium of only ₹436 per year.
- Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY): This is a one-year accident insurance scheme that provides coverage in case of death or disability due to an accident.
- Atal Pension Yojana (APY): Under this scheme, beneficiaries receive a guaranteed minimum monthly pension ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 after the age of 60.
It’s worth noting that SBI is the largest government-owned bank in terms of market capitalization. As of June 2023, SBI holds deposits of over ₹45.31 lakh crore and has disbursed loans exceeding ₹33 lakh crore.”
